Where to: Citrus & Salt, chef Jason Santos’s Mexican restaurant, relocated from Back Bay to Fort Point.
Why: Fans of margaritas, tacos, and lush, whimsical design once flocked to the original Citrus & Salt. That experience is now available in a roomier space with more seats, a big outdoor patio, and a private nook called the Patron Room.
The backstory: Santos, the blue-haired chef who is a regular on shows like “Bar Rescue” and “Hell’s Kitchen,” opened the Back Bay Citrus & Salt in 2017. He is also behind Buttermilk & Bourbon and Nash Bar & Stage, but first gained local renown in the ‘90s at Gargoyles on the Square in Somerville. Next up: ButterBird, a fast-casual, biscuit-heavy spot at Watertown’s Arsenal Yards. The new Fort Point space was formerly home to Oak + Rowan.

What to eat: The menu focuses on small plates and tacos: oysters and ceviche, chips and guac, blue crab empanadas and duck confit taquitos, birria tacos with consomme. (Nashville hot chicken tacos are fun, if not particularly hot.) What are those bright red things on every table? Grilled street corn, rolled in Flamin’ Hot Cheetos crumbs. For dessert, you’ll find churros, strawberry shortcake tacos, and frosty, pineapple-flavored Dole Whip. Of course there’s brunch! The menu brings fried chicken and waffle tacos, breakfast empanadas, and more.
What to drink: There is beer, bubbles, sangria, and alcohol-free aguas frescas in flavors like Yuzu Spritz and Strawberry Piña Colada. But the real focus is tequila, in margaritas of many flavors, frozen and not, as well as cocktails with names such as I Didn’t Text You Tequila Did and Tequila Is Cheaper Than Therapy.
The takeaway: The new Citrus & Salt looks beautiful, like Barbie’s Mexican vacation, filled with pink flowers, flamingos, and sugar skulls, all white and brick with pops of fuchsia and turquoise. Anyone who loved the Back Bay spot will love this one, too.
